What am I supposed to be doing as the CEO?
Starting your own business can be extremely rewarding and extremely stressful all at the same time. Often times individuals launch their own company either out of passion or necessity, either way it gets launched. The hardest part about launching any new business is understanding what it really takes to be successful.
When I started my company, there was no CEO training course I could take. I launched out of passion and then that passion became a necessity. As I journeyed to becoming CEO of Visionary People my learning curve became a huge culture shock! Even though I was my own boss, I was the boss.... I needed to have the answers and have the plan. But there have been days that I didn't have the answers and I had to fall back on these 5 specific reminders.
So after five years of being my own boss, I've learned some valuable things about what a CEO of a start up company is supposed to be doing. This I share with you today.
1) A CEO is actually the Chief Fundraiser for the company. As the CEO you must understand how to make money, how to spend money and where the best money is. Keep in mind all money isn't good money. Stick to the mission of your company so you don't get led astray.
2) A CEO is the Research & Development Leader. As the CEO you have to be able to understand when it's time to move and when it's time to be still. If you move to soon you just may sink! The CEO must become the industry. Doing this requires researching your industry and the needs of your market every day. You then need to be a creator of solutions for those needs. You research and you develop ways to meet needs and solve problems.
3) A CEO is the Sales Force of the company. As the CEO it is imperative that you understand how to sell your company to clients', employees, investors, partners and sponsors. If you can't communicate the absolute benefits of your company and how your company benefits the industry, you'll be spinning your wheels year after year. The first place to start is understanding how your customer acquisition model works and how each customer gets processed through your company. Create your sales pipeline and be consistent with proven results. Don't do the easy and ineffective hit and miss routine, Get Strategic!
4) A CEO is the Company's Culture. As the CEO you ultimately create the culture of your company. Whether you are a 1 man/woman show or a 50 staffed show. It doesn't matter. Your attitudes, beliefs and work ethics will transcend through out the company. Even if you hire a virtual assistant or a temp contractor, the company's culture is created by you, the CEO. If you handle things sloppy, so will all those connected to your company. News Flash! This includes your customers.
5) A CEO is the Cheering Team Leader. As the CEO you must be the loudest and biggest cheerleader and team leader of the company. If you can't get excited everyday about what your company does, why will anyone else? If you don't trust that your company can deliver the service you're promising then why will anyone else? You have to Cheer your company & Lead your Team in the optimal way every day, even on the hardest days.
I pray this has helped you find clarity and understanding of being a CEO of your start up company. If you enjoyed this Blog, show me some love and subscribe to this blog. If you are in need of help connecting with your Ideal Customers and making a conservative budget get sizable results feel free to contact me for a conversation.

How to Make Your Product or Service the Center of Attention
Launching new products and services can be a tedious task, but when you apply a few key techniques your life can be much easier. Let's acknowledge that showcasing a product is much easier than showcasing a service. A product is tangible and allows the interested consumer an opportunity to touch, see and connect with the item. Services lack that touch and see element making it imperative that an emotional connection is created.
The clients that seek Visionary People are in need of creative focus and marketing techniques to effectively communicate the value of what they offer. Each marketing plan and campaign gets a customized touch of uniqueness.
Some of the key steps we transition through when working to help our clients make their products & services the Center of Attention are the following.
Step One - Identify, Research, Evaluate and Validate the product or service. Outline and understand the opportunity in your product or service. Remember, that before you launch or relaunch a product or service know who you're communicating with, know where they're going to be and how your product will help them.
Step Two - Compose a product message that fits the opportunity, communicates the problem resolution and the concept of the product or service. A strong brainstorming session helps to get through this step very well. Remember, brainstorming sessions are used to help clear the mind and find the best options.
Step Three - Develop the plan of action of how the Strategic and Tactical tasks will unfold. The Strategic side is the actual marketing plan outlining a full road map of how your going to get what you want. The Tactical side is the implementation timelines of making it happen. This is where the marketing plan comes in handy! When everyone has a clear road map, the likelihood of wasting resources, time and money is minimized.
Step Four - Launch the Plan and track the results. One of the major missing links with product and service positioning is not tracking the results. If you don't track the results then you can't improve the approach. A basic and well needed metric you need to pay attention to is your Close Rate. A close rate reveals how well a company is converting leads into actual sales. Sales = Income. Income = Profit. Profit = Growth
If your close rate isn't around 4%-10%, then an adjustment will need to be made in order to achieve it.
How to Calculate your Close Rate = Actual Customers Gained / Total Leads exposed to x 100 = CR %
For Example: You attend a trade event or place your AD in a media outlet, you want to know the percentage of those leads converting into actual sales.
- Exposed to 600
- Customers are 48
Calculate 48/ 600 = 0.08
0.08 x 100 = 8% Close Rate!
A close rate of 8% is showing great positioning. Understanding the numbers is essential to marketing your products and services and making them the Center of Attention.
Transition through these basic steps and watch your product/service become the Center of Attention in the marketplace!
I hope this has been extremely helpful to you. As the Chief Visionary of Visionary People my goal is to "Transform Your Vision For Success Into Reality". Thanks for visiting the Taking Success By Force Blog. Help us continue to help you. Get the World To Embrace Your Business.
So, you've been in business for a while and things aren't going as you thought it would. Money isn't flowing. Clients aren't increasing and your business isn't growing. Well, It's time to Get the World to Embrace your Business. Now, I understand I'm making it sound easy but in actuality, after a few key steps, Yes! It can be easy-ish! LOL!
Okay seriously, let's touch bases on the first thing you need to start doing to have the world embrace you and your business. You need to have better organization in YOUR World if you want THE World!
First, start clearly Planning out your day or your week the day before or the week before. Over the course of my years in business and sessions with my mentors, I've learned that this habit brings such profound clarity. You'll be amazed by the level of productivity you experience. So, start clearly outlining your activities so you can execute them. Whether you write on your grease board in your office, plot them on your outlook or in your IPad notes. Plan it! When you plan your business day you know exactly what is expected of you. Planning your day may look like:
- Make 4 Calls to Ideal Potential Clients and ask for an appointment to discuss their needs and my services
- Create my Email Marketing Campaign for this week or month.
- Contract a Virtual Assistant because I need help
- Evaluate the needs of my current clients & provide service to them
- Attend a Networking Event
- Reach out to a media outlet requesting an interview
- Read an Industry White Paper to update myself on new trends
- Check Emails and respond accordingly
- Plan tomorrow's work day
You see, when you clearly outline your day you avoid those 18 hour Entrepreneur Shifts. Once the tasks that needed your attention for the day are completed; your day is done. And with that, you are more likely to position yourself in the market with greater precision because you have more structure of your time.
Next, start to take on the Habit of Consistency. Be consistent in your prospecting, marketing, planning and executing. Make sure to remember, if you don't do it, it won't happen. Marketing is a daily activity not a yearly or an as needed activity. Planning should be something that you do on a regular basis. Have strategic growth sessions, even if it's just you and God. BRAINSTORM your way to Success & Take It By Force!
The key is to do something 1 Million times very well and consistently! If you are consistently doing things to move your business forward, then your business can't help but move forward. Marketing your company is the act of effectively positioning your business in the Right Market. Marketing itself is not Sales. Now, effective and consistent Marketing leads to sales.
Your marketing approach may be to hinge on an Education Campaign or a Relationship Campaign but don't hinge your marketing solely on a Selling Campaign. Take it from someone who knows; It doesn't Work yet it's a lot of Work.
Third, Create Partners that will help to promote your business and its services. Make sure you outline what you want each partner to do, what you will do for each partner and how customers will gain added value.
If you don't think of the "Triple Win Concept" then you won't have valuable partners.
The Triple Win Concept allows for both businesses to win and the customer as well! When you engage a Triple Win Partnership, success follows because an increase in Value has been created.
That's all for now! As Your Chief Visionary, I pray this information has helped shift your thinking today. Drop me a comment of your thoughts. I'd love to know! If you haven't joined as a Valued Follower of the Taking Success By Force Blog, I ask that you do so now.
